Inca Trail Day Four: Intipunku

Intipunku is Machu Picchu's Gate of the sun, framing the sun on the solistice for various solar clocks in MachuPicchu, and providing a tremendous overlook of Machu Picchu itself.

More gringo killers; Chaylee balances on an inca frame

A beautiful viewpoint, waiting for the fog to clear on the mountains

Looking down at Machu Pichu from Inti punku waiting for the fog to clear. We woke up at 4Am today to break camp and start the hike. But while others sprinted--literally--to make the sun gate by dawn, Elias steered us into a position dead-last on the trail, and to a leisurely pace. We therefore had this amazing trail all to ourselves, and a beautiful quiet morning hike by our lonesome, and timed the hike to reach the SunGate not when the Sun rose, but when the more important fog lifted! We sat here for about a 1/2 hour waiting for the fog to lift, which was truly spectacular.
Two before and after comparisons
